Convert HEIC to JPG

iPhones save photos in HEIC format by default, which is 50% smaller than JPG but has terrible compatibility outside the Apple ecosystem. Windows PCs, Android phones, most email clients, and many websites cannot display HEIC files without special software. Converting to JPG gives you a universally compatible photo that opens everywhere, on every device, instantly.

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container, introduced in 2015) uses HEVC (H.265) intra-frame compression. JPG (Joint Photographic Experts Group, introduced in 1992) uses DCT-based lossy (baseline, progressive, or lossless) compression. HEIC supports transparency, but JPG does not. Transparent areas will be filled with a solid background color (typically white) during conversion. HEIC supports animation, but JPG does not. Only the first frame will be preserved during conversion. HEIC browser support: Limited (Safari only on macOS/iOS). JPG browser support: Universal.

HEIC to JPG conversion preserves excellent visual quality. Since HEIC uses advanced HEVC compression, and JPG at quality 90 is already very high quality, the visual difference is negligible for everyday photos. Some metadata (like depth maps and Live Photo data) will be lost since JPG does not support these features.

The JPG output will be larger than the HEIC original — roughly 2x the size at quality 90. A 2 MB HEIC iPhone photo becomes approximately 3-5 MB as JPG. This is the tradeoff for universal compatibility.
